OUR INSPIRATION...
"Big things often have very small beginnings."
HAVE YOU HEARD...
Living Threads Co. is a small social enterprise devoted to preserving artisan traditions while improving the livelihoods of those who weave.
We at Living Threads Co. have created this blog to share our passion for art, artisan traditions, and the stories behind the artisans themselves. We have traveled the globe in search of the most unique, high quality, and beautiful textiles. Along the way we havegathered amazing stories of the artisan, culture and environment from which they come. Everything is created by skilled artisans using the highest of quality locally sourced materials. We are excited to share with you the story of how Living Threads Co. came to be, our new product features, as well as unique experiences that have inspired us to continue our mission and support small scale artisans around the world.
THE BEGINNING...
As international development professionals by trade, we have spent significant time living in developing countries. Amanda, founder and owner of Living Threads Co., lived for years in West Africa, Nicaragua, and Guatemala where she became very close with artisan families who weave. The artisans she met were committed to preserving ancient traditions indigenous to their cultures, yet did not have access to sustainable markets to sell their work. Amanda instantly fell in love with their products and wanted to support these artisans with their business. Upon returning to the states, she started her small shop out of a storefront in Maine, and thus Living Threads Co. was born!
ON THE GROUND...
Living Threads Co. is growing. We are on the move. We are on the look-out for highly skilled artisans from different corners of the world. While continuing to support our artisans in Central America, we are excited to launch collections from other cultures and regions. We look forward to sharing the work of these artisans with you here…on Living Threads Co.’s blog.
2016 will be an exciting year for Living Threads Co. We are starting this year’s adventure in India and Nepal. Our cashmere and pashmina collection is sourced from rural woman’s cooperatives; whereby woman weave to support their families. We are excited to get to know these women and learn more about their craft. Stay tuned and explore the world with Living Threads Co!
